Lake Como is a popular movie location. Some of the most famous movies that have used the lake as a location include Ocean’s Twelve, Star Wars: Episode II- Attack of the Clones, and Casino Royale. Villa culture began at Lake Como. It was here that the rich and famous of the Roman Empire chose to build their luxurious villas. In 2000, Star Wars: Episode II—Attack of the Clones was filmed in part at the Villa del Balbianello, which juts out dramatically into the lake. (More recently, Casino Royale was shot there as well.) Villa del Balbianello is located on a wooded promontory on Como lake. This elegant, romantic 18th century mansion and its magnificent garden have hosted writers, scholars and travelers, including Count Guido Monzino, the last owner of the Villa. It’s 38 km from Como.
