🌚 Bmw E46 Mass Air Flow Sensor Problems
BMW Mass Air Sensor & Air Flow Meters for BMW 3 Series E36 (1992-1998) We sell OEM air mass sensors, air flow meters, and HFMs (Hot Film Meter) for many BMWs. When the mass air sensor is bad you will notice your engine running out of tune. Your fuel mileage will suffer, throttle response will be poor, and you will notice a lack of power.

Product Details. Replacement mass air sensor for M52TU 2.5/2.8 and M54 2.5 engines. 3.0" diameter. The mass air sensor/meter measures the volume of air being fed into the engine so that the fuel levels can be adjust for optimal performance. A faulty sensor can lead to improper fuel mixture and rough idle and poor performance and gas mileage.
If the MAF doesn't fix it, and there aren't any faults stored for cam sensors or apparent voltage supply issues, I would take a look at the VANOS adjustment unit, especially if you have high miles and/or the symptoms happen mostly when the engine is cold. Good luck! BMW Master Technician and Chevy driver. S.
If the sensor works but is slow to respond to changes in air flow, the problem may be a contaminated sensing element caused by a failure in the self-cleaning circuit or relay. With GM Delco MAF sensors, attach a digital voltmeter to the appropriate MAF sensor output terminal. With the engine idling, the sensor should output a steady 2.5 volts.
The airflow inside the tube is fastest in the center, slowest on the sides. The screens slow down the air flow velocity throughout the pipe, which makes the center/side difference less of a difference. Since the MAF sensor isn't measured at different points in the pipe, this gives a more accurate measurement for total CFM.
MAF sensor on BMW e46. Hi.Im new to this forum and this is actually my first post. Problem I have is with my BMW 318 e46. When I start up my car in the morning and start driving right away it struggles very much and is jerking like mad, basically I need to stop and wait. Then after 5 minutes or so, everything goes away and car drives normally.
The mass air flow sensor measures the air mass flowing into the engine intake. Measuring air mass is critical in calculating how much fuel to add to achieve the correct air-fuel ratio (AFR). The ideal AFR is 14.7:1 (14.7 pounds of air to 1.0 pounds of gasoline), but real-world AFR varies.
